AWS ACTIVE DIRECTORY

Amazon Web Services (AWS) does not offer a service called “AWS Active Directory.” However, AWS does provide a service known as “AWS Directory Service,” which allows you to connect your AWS resources and applications to existing on-premises Microsoft Active Directory (AD) or set up a new, managed Active Directory in the AWS Cloud.

There are primarily two options within AWS Directory Service related to Microsoft Active Directory:

  1. AWS Managed Microsoft AD: This service offers a fully managed Microsoft AD in the AWS Cloud. It enables you to use familiar AD features like Group Policy, user accounts, and domain-join capabilities. You can integrate AWS resources and applications with this managed AD, creating a hybrid cloud environment.

  2. AD Connector: AD Connector allows you to connect your on-premises Microsoft AD to AWS without setting up a separate directory in the cloud. It acts as a proxy to allow your existing AD users to access AWS services securely.

Using AWS Directory Service’s Microsoft AD solutions, you can take advantage of single sign-on (SSO) capabilities, leverage your existing AD infrastructure, and simplify user management across both on-premises and AWS environments.
