AWS Certified Security

AWS (Amazon Web Services) Certified Security – Specialty is a certification offered by Amazon that validates a person’s ability to effectively secure the AWS platform.

The exam tests the individual’s knowledge of specialized data classifications, data encryption methods, secure internet protocols, and AWS mechanisms to implement these security methods. A working knowledge of AWS security services and features of services to provide a secure production environment is also required.

To earn this certification, candidates must be able to:

1. Understand specialized data classifications and AWS data protection mechanisms.
2. Understand data encryption methods and AWS mechanisms to implement them.
3. Understand secure internet protocols and AWS mechanisms to implement them.
4. Have a working knowledge of AWS security services and features of services to provide a secure production environment.
5. Be competent in identifying security operations and risk.

The exam itself is multiple choice and multiple answer, and lasts 170 minutes. It’s recommended to have a solid understanding of AWS architecture and services, as well as security operations and risk, before taking this certification exam.

Before attempting the AWS Certified Security – Specialty exam, Amazon suggests that you should have:

1. A minimum of two years of hands-on experience securing AWS workloads.
2. Security controls for workloads on AWS.
3. At least five years of IT security experience designing and implementing security solutions.
