AWS Prometheus
Amazon Web Services (AWS) did not offer a native service called “AWS Prometheus.” However, AWS provides various services related to monitoring and observability, and you can use Prometheus as a monitoring solution in combination with other AWS services.
Prometheus is an open-source monitoring and alerting tool widely used for monitoring containerized applications and infrastructure. It collects metrics from various sources, stores them, and allows querying and alerting based on these metrics.
If you want to use Prometheus on AWS, you have a few options:
Self-Managed Prometheus on AWS EC2: You can manually set up and run Prometheus on Amazon EC2 instances. This approach gives you full control over the Prometheus configuration and allows you to scrape metrics from your applications and services running on AWS.
Managed Kubernetes with Prometheus: If you are using Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) or another Kubernetes service, you can deploy Prometheus as a containerized application on your Kubernetes cluster. This way, Prometheus can collect metrics from your Kubernetes pods and services.
Prometheus Integration with AWS Service Discovery: Prometheus supports various service discovery mechanisms, including AWS service discovery. You can configure Prometheus to automatically discover and scrape metrics from AWS services like Amazon EC2, Amazon RDS, and others.
Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus (AMP): After my last update, AWS introduced the Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus (AMP), which is a fully managed Prometheus service. AMP simplifies the operational overhead of running Prometheus at scale by taking care of provisioning, scaling, and managing the Prometheus infrastructure. It allows you to focus more on using the collected data for monitoring and analysis rather than managing the infrastructure.
