AWS WorkSpaces Pricing

AWS WorkSpaces is a cloud-based virtual desktop service that allows you to provision Windows or Linux desktops in the AWS cloud for your users.

The pricing for AWS WorkSpaces typically involves the following components:

  1. WorkSpaces Bundle: AWS offers several different bundles, each with varying compute resources and features. The most common bundles are:

    • Standard Bundle (Windows): This bundle includes 1 vCPU, 4 GiB RAM, and 80 GB of root volume storage.
    • Standard Plus Bundle (Windows): This bundle includes the same resources as the Standard Bundle but also includes Microsoft Office applications.
    • Performance Bundle (Windows): This bundle includes 2 vCPUs, 7.5 GiB RAM, and 100 GB of root volume storage, suitable for more demanding workloads.
    • Power Bundle (Windows): This bundle includes 2 vCPUs, 7.5 GiB RAM, and 100 GB of root volume storage, and comes with a dedicated GPU for better graphics performance.
    • Graphics Bundle (Windows): This bundle includes 8 vCPUs, 15.25 GiB RAM, 1 GPU, and 100 GB of root volume storage, designed for graphics-intensive applications.
  2. User Pricing: AWS charges per user for each WorkSpace provisioned. The user pricing depends on the bundle chosen and whether you opt for a monthly or hourly billing option. With the monthly billing option, you pay a fixed monthly fee per user. With the hourly billing option, you pay per hour of usage, which may be more cost-effective if your usage varies.

  3. Storage: In addition to the root volume, you can attach additional storage volumes to each WorkSpace as needed, which will incur additional costs based on the size of the storage and whether it’s a standard or SSD volume.

  4. Data Transfer: AWS charges for data transferred in and out of your WorkSpaces over the internet.

  5. Active Directory: If you choose to use AWS Managed Microsoft AD or Simple AD for your WorkSpaces, there may be additional charges for the directory service.

  6. Amazon WorkSpaces Application Manager (WAM): If you use WAM to manage your applications, there may be additional costs associated with the service.
