Cloudera CDH

Cloudera Distribution for Hadoop (CDH) was a widely used and popular distribution of the Hadoop ecosystem components and related technologies. CDH was developed and maintained by Cloudera, a company specializing in big data analytics and management solutions. While CDH was a prominent choice for organizations looking to deploy Hadoop-based solutions, it’s important to note that as of my last knowledge update in January 2022, there were some significant changes in the Cloudera ecosystem.

Here are key points about Cloudera CDH and its evolution:

1. Components: CDH included a comprehensive set of Hadoop ecosystem components, such as Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), MapReduce, Hive, Pig, HBase, Impala, Spark, and many others. These components could be installed and configured as part of the CDH distribution.

2. Management and Deployment: Cloudera Manager, a proprietary tool developed by Cloudera, was commonly used to manage and monitor CDH clusters. It provided features for cluster deployment, configuration management, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.

3. Commercial Support: Cloudera offered commercial support and services for CDH, making it an attractive choice for enterprises that required reliable support for their big data deployments.

4. Integration with Open Source: CDH integrated open-source Apache Hadoop projects, ensuring compatibility with the broader Hadoop ecosystem while providing additional features and enhancements.

5. Transition to CDP: Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) became the successor to CDH. CDP is a more comprehensive data platform that extends beyond Hadoop and includes support for multi-cloud deployments, containerization, and more. 7. Community and Open Source: While Cloudera continued to contribute to open-source Hadoop projects, some users and organizations chose to deploy and manage Hadoop using open-source distributions like Apache Hadoop, which are not tied to a specific vendor.

8. Cloud Offerings: Cloudera also provided cloud-based offerings, allowing users to deploy and manage CDH or CDP clusters on various cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
