JDK Version
The Java Development Kit (JDK) has gone through several versions over the years ,here are some of the key JDK versions and their release dates:
JDK 1.0: The initial version of the JDK was released on January 23, 1996.
JDK 1.1: Released on February 19, 1997, this version introduced the Abstract Window Toolkit (AWT) for creating graphical user interfaces.
J2SE 1.2 (JDK 1.2): Released on December 8, 1998, this version introduced the Swing GUI toolkit.
J2SE 1.3 (JDK 1.3): Released on May 8, 2000, it added features like the HotSpot JVM and the Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI).
J2SE 1.4 (JDK 1.4): Released on February 6, 2002, this version introduced assert statements, the NIO package, and more.
J2SE 5.0 (JDK 1.5): Released on September 30, 2004, this version introduced major language enhancements such as generics and the enhanced for loop.
Java SE 6 (JDK 6): Released on December 11, 2006, this version focused on performance improvements, scripting support with the inclusion of the scripting API, and more.
Java SE 7 (JDK 7): Released on July 28, 2011, it brought features like the try-with-resources statement, the diamond operator, and more.
Java SE 8 (JDK 8): Released on March 18, 2014, this version introduced lambda expressions, the Stream API, the java.time package, and more.
Java SE 9 (JDK 9): Released on September 21, 2017, it introduced the module system (Project Jigsaw) and other enhancements.
Java SE 10 (JDK 10): Released on March 20, 2018, it was a relatively minor release with features like local-variable type inference (var keyword).
Java SE 11 (JDK 11): Released on September 25, 2018, this version was significant because it marked the end of public support for the older Java 8 and introduced long-term support (LTS) releases.
Java SE 12, 13, 14, and 15: These were intermediate releases with various features and improvements.
Java SE 16 (JDK 16): Released on March 16, 2021, this version brought records, pattern matching for instanceof, and other enhancements.
