TABLEAU DYNAMODB

Connecting Tableau to Amazon DynamoDB allows you to visualize and analyze data stored in DynamoDB, a NoSQL database service provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS). Here are some methods to connect Tableau to DynamoDB:

Method 1: Using Amazon Athena and Amazon S3

  1. Export DynamoDB Data to S3:
    1. Use AWS Data Pipeline or write a custom script to export data from DynamoDB to Amazon S3 in a format like CSV or Parquet.
  2. Query Data with Amazon Athena:
    1. Set up Amazon Athena to query the data stored in S3. Athena allows SQL queries against data in S3 and can be connected to Tableau.
  3. Connect Tableau to Athena:
    1. In Tableau, select Amazon Athena as the data source.
    2. Provide necessary credentials and information to connect to Athena (region, S3 staging directory, access key, secret key).
    3. Once connected, you can query your DynamoDB data (now in S3) using SQL in Tableau.

Method 2: Using a Third-Party Connector

  1. Choose a Third-Party Connector:
    1. There are several third-party connectors available that can connect Tableau to DynamoDB (like CData or Simba connectors).
    2. Install the chosen connector.
  2. Connect to DynamoDB in Tableau:
    1. Open Tableau and select the third-party connector as the data source.
    2. Enter the necessary credentials and connection parameters for your DynamoDB instance.
  3. Query Data:
    1. You can now create visualizations and dashboards in Tableau using your DynamoDB data.

Method 3: Custom ETL Process

  1. Extract Data from DynamoDB:
    1. Write a custom script (possibly in Python, Java, or another language) to extract data from DynamoDB.
  2. Transform and Load into a Tableau-Supported Database:
    1. Transform the data as needed and load it into a relational database or a data warehouse that Tableau can connect to directly (like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Amazon Redshift).
  3. Connect Tableau to the Database:
    1. Use Tableau to connect to the database where you have loaded the data.
