Databricks Roles
Databricks Roles
Databricks has several roles that manage permissions and access levels within the platform. These roles are typically divided into two categories:
Account-level roles:
- Account Admin: This role fully controls the Databricks account, including managing users, workspaces, and billing.
- Marketplace Admin (if applicable): This role manages the account’s Databricks Marketplace provider profile, including creating and managing Marketplace listings.
Workspace-level roles:
- Workspace Admin: This role controls a specific Databricks workspace, including managing users, clusters, and jobs.
- Metastore Admin (if applicable): This role manages privileges and ownership for all securable objects within a Unity Catalog megastore.
Additional roles:
- User: This is the primary role for individuals working within a Databricks workspace. Depending on their assigned permissions, they can create and run notebooks, jobs, and clusters.
- Service Principal: This is a non-human identity application or service used to interact with Databricks.
- Group: This collection of users or service principals is used to simplify permission management.
