No Validity Interval For Key In SAP HR

Title: Troubleshooting the “No Validity Interval for Key” Error in SAP HR

Introduction

Maintaining accurate employee time and attendance records in SAP HR is foundational for payroll processing and labor compliance. The “No validity interval for key” error can be frustrating as it prevents the proper assignment of absences, quotas, or deductions. Let us dive into the root of this issue and how to fix it.

What Does the Error Indicate?

When encountering this error, you are told that SAP cannot find a period (start and end date) in which a specific rule related to HR processes should apply. This usually happens about:

  • Absence Quotas (Infotype, 2006): The system cannot determine when employees are entitled to certain absence types (e.g., vacation, sick leave).
  • Deductions/ Payments (Infotype 0014 or 0015): SAP does not know when to apply a specific wage type as a deduction or payment.

Common Causes of the Error

  1. Missing Configuration in Table V_503_ALL: This table controls Employee Subgroup Groupings for personnel calculations. If your employee’s subgroup grouping does not have an entry, time tracking cannot be calculated correctly.
  2. Incorrect Validity/Deduction Intervals in Table V_T559L: This table is where you define the valid periods for absence quotas or wage types. Errors here lead to mismatches when the system tries to apply them.
  3. Issues in Selection Rules (Table V_T559D): Selection rules determine which absence or wage types are assigned based on factors like employment status. Errors here can cause incorrect assignments.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Identify the Key: The error message will tell you the key (e.g., “key 2 14 01”). This code relates to specific tables and info types.
  2. Check Table V_503_ALL:
    • Use transaction code SM30 to access the table.
    • Ensure your employee’s Employee Subgroup Grouping has an entry and that the Time Quota Type field is populated with a valid value.
  3. Review Table V_T559L:
    • Use transaction code SM30.
    • Verify that the key specified in the error message has a validity/deduction interval. Ensure the start and end dates are correct.
  4. Examine Table V_T559D:
    • It is also accessed with SM30.
    • Confirm that your selection rules are accurate and point to the correct absence quotas or wage types.

Additional Tips

  • Check Customizations: Incorrectly configured custom absence or wage types can also contribute to the error.
  • Data Consistency: Verify the employee’s hiring date and other relevant HR master data.
  • SAP Notes: Search for SAP Notes that may be relevant to the specific key and error message you are encountering.

Proactive Prevention

  • Thorough Testing: Test any time and attendance configuration changes in a test environment before rolling them out live.
  • Regular Configuration Reviews: Periodically audit your SAP HR time and attendance setups to spot potential issues before they cause errors proactively.
