Salesforce 2FA
Salesforce offers a Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) feature to enhance the security of user accounts. Two-factor authentication requires users to provide two separate forms of identification before they can access their accounts, providing an extra layer of protection beyond a simple username and password. Here’s how 2FA works in Salesforce:
1. Verification Methods: Salesforce offers several methods for the second form of verification:
- Verification Code via Mobile App: Users can generate a time-based one-time password (TOTP) using a mobile authentication app (such as Google Authenticator or Salesforce Authenticator).
- Verification Code via SMS: A verification code is sent to the user’s mobile phone via SMS.
- Verification Code via Email: A verification code is sent to the user’s email address.
2. Setup: Users can set up 2FA in their Salesforce account settings. The exact steps may vary slightly depending on the verification method chosen.
3. Logging In: After enabling 2FA, when a user logs in with their username and password, they’ll be prompted to provide the second factor of verification.
4. Remembered Devices: Users can choose to remember devices they frequently use, reducing the need to provide the second factor for each login from the same device.
5. Security Policies: Administrators can enforce 2FA for specific user profiles or for all users in the organization. This ensures that a higher level of security is maintained for sensitive accounts.
Two-factor authentication significantly enhances the security of Salesforce accounts by reducing the risk of unauthorized access, even if a password is compromised. It’s a recommended practice to enable 2FA for Salesforce accounts, especially for users who have access to sensitive customer or business data.
Please note that Salesforce’s features and offerings can evolve over time, so I recommend referring to the official Salesforce documentation or contacting Salesforce support for the most up-to-date information on Two-Factor Authentication and its implementation in your Salesforce instance.
