Salesforce Bought Slack
Salesforce completed its acquisition of Slack Technologies on July 21, 2021. This acquisition, valued at approximately $27.7 billion, was Salesforce’s largest-ever and marked a significant move in their strategy to expand into digital and remote workspaces. The deal was announced in December 2020 and followed a definitive agreement that involved a mix of cash and stock transactions.
Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, described the acquisition as a step towards defining the future of enterprise software, creating a digital headquarters that enables every organization to achieve success from anywhere. Stewart Butterfield, Slack’s co-founder and CEO, saw the deal as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to rethink and reshape work and collaboration methods. Salesforce’s acquisition of Slack was viewed as a response to the increasing need for digital communication and collaboration tools, especially in the context of the evolving work-from-anywhere world post-COVID.
