SSE S3
“SSE-S3” (Server-Side Encryption with Amazon S3). Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) is a popular cloud storage service provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS).
SSE-S3 is a feature in Amazon S3 that allows you to enable server-side encryption for your S3 objects. When you enable SSE-S3, Amazon S3 automatically encrypts your data at the object level before storing it in S3. This provides an extra layer of security to protect your data at rest.
There are two encryption options available with SSE-S3:
1. SSE-S3 with Amazon S3 Managed Keys (SSE-S3 with AWS Key Management Service (KMS)): With this option, Amazon S3 automatically manages the encryption keys used to encrypt and decrypt your data. It provides a convenient way to enable encryption without the need to manage the encryption keys manually.
2. SSE-S3 with Customer-Provided Keys (SSE-S3 with Customer-Managed Keys): This option allows you to bring your encryption keys to encrypt your data before sending it to Amazon S3. With this approach, you maintain full control over the encryption keys and are responsible for managing them securely.
To enable SSE-S3 encryption for your objects in Amazon S3, you can do so via the AWS Management Console, AWS CLI (Command Line Interface), or AWS SDKs (Software Development Kits).
SSE-S3 only protects your data at rest. If you want to secure your data during transit (while it’s being transferred between your applications and S3), you can use SSL/TLS to enable encryption during data transfer.
