Bio Python

Biopython is a set of freely available tools for biological computation written in Python by an international team of developers. It is a distributed collaborative effort to develop Python libraries and applications which address the needs of current and future work in bioinformatics.

1. Provide reusable, efficient bioinformatics tools in the Python programming language, improving upon existing Python bioinformatics libraries and tools where necessary.

2. Promote the usage of Python (and in some cases suggesting a transition to Python) among bioinformatics scientists and developers, providing resources for those new to Python or new to bioinformatics.

3. Foster collaboration and development by providing a forum for discussion of common problems and potential solutions, and a core library for developers to contribute to and draw upon.

4. Provide a library that is easy to use for scientists who are not expert programmers, but flexible enough for experts to rely upon for complex tasks.
