POWER BI GET DATA FROM SHAREPOINT

You can use Power BI to connect and get data from SharePoint using the “SharePoint Folder” or “SharePoint Online List” connectors. The process is quite straightforward. Here’s how you can do it:

1. Open Power BI Desktop: Launch Power BI Desktop on your computer.

2. Get Data: Click on the “Home” tab in the Power BI ribbon, then select “Get Data.”

3. Connect to SharePoint: In the “Get Data” window, search for “SharePoint” in the search bar or navigate to “Online Services” > “SharePoint Online List” or “Folder” depending on your data source.

4. SharePoint Online List: If you want to connect to a SharePoint list, select “SharePoint Online List,” and then enter the URL of your SharePoint site. Click “OK.”

5. SharePoint Folder: If you want to connect to a SharePoint folder, select “Folder,” and then enter the URL of the SharePoint folder you want to connect to. Click “OK.”

6. Authentication: Power BI will prompt you to sign in with your SharePoint credentials if you haven’t already authenticated.

7. Select Data: Once you’re connected, you’ll see a navigator window that displays the lists or files available in the SharePoint site or folder. Select the data you want to use and click “Load.”

8. Transform Data (optional): You may need to perform some data transformations using the Power Query Editor to clean or shape the data the way you want.

9. Create Visualizations: After loading the data into Power BI, you can start creating visualizations, reports, and dashboards based on your SharePoint data.

10. Refresh Data (optional): If you want your report to stay up-to-date, you can schedule data refresh in Power BI Service. This will ensure that the data from SharePoint is regularly updated in your Power BI reports.
