Synoptic Power BI

Here’s how you can use the Synoptic Panel in Power BI:

1. Install the Synoptic Panel Visual:

   • To use the Synoptic Panel, you’ll need to have it installed in your Power BI Desktop.
   • Open your Power BI report, go to the “Visualizations” pane on the right, and click on the “Import from marketplace” icon (represented by a cloud).
   • In the marketplace, search for “Synoptic Panel” and install it.

2. Create or Upload an SVG Image:

   • The key feature of the Synoptic Panel is the ability to use custom SVG images as your base visual. You can either create your own SVG image or find an existing one that matches your needs.
   • To create a custom SVG, you can use software like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape. Your SVG should represent a floorplan, map, or any image where you want to associate data.
   • In Power BI, go to the “Synoptic Panel” visual and add it to your report.

3. Configure the Synoptic Panel:

   • In the Synoptic Panel visual, you will need to upload your SVG image.
   • Define regions or objects within the SVG where you want to associate data. This is done by drawing polygons or shapes on top of the image in the Synoptic Panel settings.
   • Map these regions or objects to your data fields. For example, you can map a region to a specific category or a value.

4. Associate Data:

   • Once you’ve configured the Synoptic Panel, you can associate your data with the regions or objects you defined.
   • Use the Synoptic Panel settings to set up the data binding. You’ll typically map a data column to the “Key” field and another column to the “Value” field.

5. Customize Styling and Interactivity:

   • You can customize the styling of your Synoptic Panel, including colors, tooltips, and labels.
   • You can also enable interactivity, allowing users to click on regions or objects to filter or highlight other visuals in your report.

6. Publish and Share:

   • Once you’ve configured your Synoptic Panel, you can publish your Power BI report to the Power BI service and share it with others.
