                     HDFS Kerberos

When setting up Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) with Kerberos authentication, it’s essential to ensure that the necessary configurations are in place to avoid your emails going to spam. Make sure to follow these steps:

  1. Configure Kerberos: Set up Kerberos authentication for your Hadoop cluster. This involves configuring the Kerberos KDC (Key Distribution Center) and the necessary principals for Hadoop services.

  2. Update HDFS Configuration: Update your HDFS configuration files (hdfs-site.xml) to enable Kerberos authentication. You’ll need to specify the Kerberos principal and keytab for the HDFS service.

  3. Keytab Files: Generate and distribute keytab files for the HDFS service principal. Keytab files are used to authenticate the service to the Kerberos server.

  4. Ambari/Ranger: If you’re using Ambari or Apache Ranger, ensure they are also configured to work with Kerberos authentication.

  5. SMTP Configuration: Since you mentioned email communication, ensure your cluster’s SMTP settings are properly configured. This includes specifying the SMTP server, port, authentication credentials, and other relevant details.

  6. SPF/DKIM Records: To avoid emails going to spam, make sure your organization’s SPF (Sender Policy Framework) and DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) records are correctly set up in your DNS. These records help verify the authenticity of your email domain.

  7. Content and Formatting: Craft your email content and formatting carefully. Avoid using excessive links, certain trigger words, and other elements that might trigger spam filters. Make sure your email has a clear purpose and is not overly promotional.

  8. Bulk Email Best Practices: Follow best practices for sending bulk emails, such as using a reputable email service provider, segmenting your email list, avoiding attachments unless necessary, and providing clear opt-out instructions.

  9. Monitoring and Testing: Regularly monitor the email delivery and engagement rates. Send test emails to different email providers to ensure they’re not being flagged as spam. Make any necessary adjustments based on the results.

  10. Engagement: Encourage recipients to mark your emails as “Not Spam” if they find them in their spam folder. This can help improve future email deliverability.
