BigTop Ambari
BigTop and Apache Ambari are two distinct projects within the Hadoop and big data ecosystem, each serving a different purpose:
BigTop:
Purpose: BigTop is an open-source project that focuses on the creation of a comprehensive packaging, testing, and deployment framework for big data and cloud applications. It aims to simplify the process of building, packaging, and deploying various big data software components and tools.
Packaging: BigTop provides packaging scripts and recipes to build binary packages for a wide range of big data-related software, including Hadoop, Hive, Spark, HBase, and many others. These packages are typically designed to work on various Linux distributions.
Testing: BigTop also includes a testing framework to verify the functionality and compatibility of the packaged software components. This helps ensure that the software works as expected across different environments.
Deployment: While BigTop focuses on packaging and testing, it doesn’t provide a deployment and management framework for big data clusters. Its primary goal is to produce reliable binary packages that can be used by various deployment and management tools.
Apache Ambari:
Purpose: Apache Ambari, on the other hand, is an open-source project that provides cluster management and monitoring capabilities specifically for Hadoop and related big data technologies. It’s designed to simplify the deployment, configuration, management, and monitoring of Hadoop clusters.
Cluster Management: Ambari offers a web-based interface and RESTful APIs to manage Hadoop clusters, including the provisioning, configuration, and scaling of cluster nodes.
Service Management: Administrators can use Ambari to add, remove, start, stop, and restart Hadoop services and components within the cluster.
Configuration Management: Ambari provides a central location for configuring and managing the settings of Hadoop services and components, ensuring consistency across the cluster.
Monitoring and Alerts: It offers real-time monitoring of cluster health and performance, along with the ability to set up alerts based on various metrics.
Security: Ambari includes security-related features for managing authentication, authorization, and data encryption within Hadoop clusters.
