TABLEAU VIEW DATA
Viewing data in Tableau is a fundamental aspect of working with this powerful visualization tool. It allows you to inspect, understand, and verify the data you’re analyzing and visualizing. Here’s a guide on how to view data in Tableau:
Steps to View Data in Tableau
- Open Tableau and Your Workbook:
- Launch Tableau Desktop and open the workbook containing the data or visualization you want to inspect.
- Navigate to the Data Source Page:
- If you want to view the raw data that’s feeding into your visualizations, go to the ‘Data Source’ tab at the bottom of the Tableau interface.
- View Data in a Worksheet:
- To view data related to a specific visualization, navigate to the worksheet where your visualization is located.
- Right-click on the data element (like a dimension or measure in the rows, columns, or marks card) and select ‘View Data’. This will show the underlying data for that specific element.
- Using the View Data Window:
- The ‘View Data’ window provides a tabular view of your data.
- You can see a ‘Summary’ tab, which gives a quick overview of the data, and a ‘Full Data’ tab, which shows all the data points.
- Depending on the context, you might also see options to view the underlying data or the aggregated data used in the view.
- Filter and Sort Data:
- In the ‘View Data’ window, you can filter and sort the data to focus on specific aspects.
- Export Data:
- You can export the data you’re viewing to a CSV file for further analysis or reporting outside of Tableau.
