AWS S3 Pricing

AWS S3 Pricing

Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) pricing is based on several factors, including storage usage, data transfer, and request rates. Here is an overview of the key components that contribute to Amazon S3 pricing:

  1. Storage Pricing: This is the cost associated with the amount of data stored in your S3 buckets. It varies depending on the AWS region where you store your data and the storage class you choose (e.g., Standard, Intelligent-Tiering, Glacier, etc.). The storage pricing is typically measured in GB-months.

  2. Data Transfer Pricing: Data transfer costs are incurred when data is moved in or out of Amazon S3. It includes both data transfer in (uploading data to S3) and data transfer out (downloading data from S3 to the internet). The data transfer pricing may also vary depending on the AWS region and the amount of data transferred.

  3. Request Pricing: AWS charges for the number of requests made to the S3 service, including PUT, GET, COPY, and LIST requests. The request pricing is typically measured in the number of requests (e.g., per thousand requests).

  4. Data Transfer Acceleration: If you enable S3 Transfer Acceleration to improve upload speeds, additional fees may apply.

  5. S3 Object Lifecycle Management: If you use S3 lifecycle policies to transition objects to different storage classes or delete them after a certain period, you might incur costs associated with these actions.

  6. Cross-Region Replication: If you set up Cross-Region Replication to replicate data between S3 buckets in different regions, there may be costs associated with data transfer between regions.

  7. Data Retrieval Costs (Glacier Storage Class): If you use the Glacier storage class, there might be costs associated with data retrieval and restoration.
