POWER BI GET DATA

To get data in Power BI, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open Power BI Desktop: Launch the Power BI Desktop application on your computer.

  2. Get Data: On the Home tab, click on “Get Data” in the External Data group. This will open a window showing various data source options.

  3. Select Data Source: Choose the data source from which you want to get the data. Power BI supports a wide range of data sources, including Excel files, databases (SQL Server, MySQL, etc.), online services (SharePoint, Salesforce, Google Analytics, etc.), and many others. Select the appropriate data source based on your requirements.

  4. Connect to the Data Source: After selecting the data source, you’ll need to provide the necessary connection details. For example, if you’re connecting to a database, you’ll need to provide the server name, database name, credentials, etc. If you’re connecting to a file, you’ll need to navigate to the file’s location.

  5. Transform Data (optional): Once connected to the data source, Power BI might give you the option to transform the data before loading it into the model. You can perform various data transformation tasks like filtering, merging, splitting, etc., to shape the data as needed.

  6. Load Data: After connecting and optionally transforming the data, click on the “Load” button to bring the data into Power BI. The data will be loaded into the Power BI model, and you’ll be able to see it in the Fields pane on the right-hand side of the Power BI Desktop window.

  7. Create Reports and Visualizations: With the data now available in Power BI, you can start building reports and visualizations. Drag and drop fields from the Fields pane onto the report canvas to create visuals like charts, tables, maps, etc.

  8. Save and Publish: Once you have created your reports and visualizations, save your Power BI Desktop file (.pbix). You can also publish your report to the Power BI service (cloud) to share it with others.

Remember that the specific steps and options may vary depending on the data source you’re using and the version of Power BI you have. But generally, these are the common steps to get data into Power BI.
